Changes in shape, volume, and appearance can be documented in conventional ways or with advanced technology. The Clinic takes the impressions to record initial size from a standard, repeatable position. This enables us to use this standard protocol and apply this point of reference for evaluation. The impressions that have been taken in the clinic are transferred to BioSculptor Corporation. There, a proprietary four axis laser imaging system automatically acquires the data so the model can be analyzed. We have created new scanning protocols to capture the specific geometry required for this application. The BioSculptor CAD/CAM software has been customized to specifically compare and analyze these various new multiple shapes. This allows us to detect any changes to the patient and document them automatically. We are able to quantify changes both visually through topographic maps and numerically.
